Leo "Rat" Ratcliff is a queer, transmasc film photographer from New Orleans, based in Seattle, WA. Rat got his start in film in 2019, predominantly working with local drag artists in the last few years after moving to Washington from small-town North Carolina at the age of 18. Heavily influenced by his queer predecessors, Rat takes pride in capturing the queer and trans community and all their beauty in film format. He chooses film as his medium due to the intentionality of the process, from the film choice to the lighting to developing and scanning. By using film, he creates an intimate experience that pairs feelings of nostalgia and modernity.
Ratcliff's work primarily focuses on empathy as a means of connection through art - a lens through which he examines the human condition with a sense of grace and gentleness. He works to create inviting spaces while representing the queer and trans community with honesty and respect, aiming to show both the diversity and universality of our shared experience.
